Summer sun, sweat and humidity mean that hair styling can become a tricky task.  The last thing you want to do is spend hours on creating the perfect hairstyle, only to have it lose all of its shine and sleek and turn to frumpy frizz.

Keeping it Down

Carefree Waves- this look is a summer style that screams fresh from the beach babe.  The key to achieving this effortless look is to begin with completely dry hair.  Styling while damp can create frizz.  Once your hair is dry, use a 1 inch curling iron to curl your hair, some stands toward and some away from your face to keep that natural, casual look.

Rumpled Waves- if you’re looking for the simplest style ever, even easier to create than carefree waves, here’s your answer.  Start your hair off with a frizz preventing cream, and if your hair is naturally curly, blow-dry it 95% of the way dry, and let it air dry the rest of the way.  If you have straight hair, once your hair is completely dry, braid it into a few sections and run over the braids with a flat iron, and mist on some hair spray.

Loose Curls- if you want to go beyond waves to curls, keep them loose.  To achieve this look, start by blowing your hair dry with a smoothing cream and applying a light hold spray.  Then part your hair down the middle and begin curling 1 ½ inch sections of hair away from your face with a large barrel curling iron.  Finish with shine spray and you’re good to go!

Turning it Up

Adding a Silk Scarf- A great way to make your updo more summery and bohemian is by adding a colorful silk scarf.  Whether it’s an addition to a chignon, a French twist and or any of your go-to updos, this is also a great way to control frizz or hide less than fresh hair.

Voluminous Bun- In the raging heat of summer, sometimes you just need to keep your hair completely off your neck and out of your face, so a sleek bun is a great choice.  To celebrate the laid-back feel of summer, instead of worrying about keeping everything super smooth, let your bun have some volume!  If you tend to find a lot of flyaways, keep them under control by spraying hairspray on your fingers and running them along your hairline, instead of coating your scalp with hairspray.
