Healthy Summer Hair (Part II)

Last week, we mentioned some products that can help make sure you have amazing summer hair.  Here are some techniques that can help those products go even further!

One of the best things about summer is that with laid back attitudes come laid back hairstyles!  So we can all give our hair a break from blowouts and intense styling and settle into natural looks like waves, braids and ponytails.

A great way to achieve that natural, breezy style is by letting your hair air dry, but if you have to blow—dry, make sure you have a nozzle on the end of your dryer to protect your hair from direct heat.  Your hair is being exposed to more heat and humidity daily, so it’s especially important to make sure your dryer isn’t doing extra damage during the summer.

Applying a mask before a trip to the beach or the gym is a great way to get your hair some extra conditioning while protecting it.  Simply slick some into your hair before you leave.  If you’re at the beach, the sun will do all the work for you, and if you’re at the gym, after your workout, go relax in the steam room with a cap on, and it’s like you’ve been to the salon!

If you’re trying to grow your hair out this summer (or any time) there are a few things you can do to encourage growth.  One great technique is sleeping with your hair up.  Knots and tangles are a common source of breakage and split ends, and while you’re sleeping, your hair is most prone to tangling.  Another way to get hair growing is by “dusting”, which is essentially trimming off the very ends- so little hair that it looks like dust.   You can do this yourself, or we can do it for you at kj.  Trimming off the damaged ends is the best way to prevent split ends and encourage your hair to grow.  The only downside is that if you’re serious about growing, you need to dust every 3 weeks.

So here’s to our best ever summer hair!
