Primer Makes Perfect!

Do you currently use primer in your makeup routine?  If not, read on to discover how it can take your look to the next level, and if you already know the power of primer, stay tuned for a few tips from allure.com that you might not have heard before.
  • Try a Tint- Primer’s great in any shade, but if you used a tinted formula you can do double duty!  Pink formulas can give a glow to a dull complexion, green ones are great for camouflaging redness, and lilac shades brighten sallow skin.
  • Go Easy- as with any great product, you might be tempted to slather on tons of primer, but if you use much more than a raisin sized drop, you run the risk of it pilling when you put on your makeup.
  • Don’t Skip Your Eyes- Primer around your eyes can give you not 1, but 3 benefits.  It prevents smudging or creasing makeup, counteracts redness and can even soften crows’ feet!
  • Love Your Lashes- Primers are so powerful that formulas have been created for eyelashes as well as your skin.  Lash Primers go on just like mascara and can amplify thinner lashes and condition them.  Make sure that when you apply your mascara afterwards, you limit it to no more than 2 coats to avoid clumps.
  • Avoid Extra Acne Products- many primers include acne fighting ingredients, so if you choose one of these, don’t also apply acne spot treatments, or the salicylic overdose can irritate and even inflame your skin.
  • Don’t forget your lips- Yes, there are lip primers as well.  Putting these on before your lipstick can prevent it from settling into lines or feathering.  If you’ve forgotten yours, skin primers can also work.
  • Polish with Powder- the ultimate makeup routine is: primer, tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation, translucent powder.  You need the powder to give your primer and foundation staying power.  The ingredients in the 2 repel each other, so if you touch your face, everything will wipe right off, which is the last thing you want.
  • Go Beyond your Face- Primer is also great for making your hands, chest and décolletage feel younger and smoother all day long!
