How to Care for Straightened Hair

If you have been to the salon to have your hair straightened or blown out, you probably want the treatment to last as long as possible, so here are some tips.
•    When you have the treatment done, make sure that your hair is freshly washed, as it is recommended to wait 3-7 days after the treatment to wash your hair or get it wet.
•    In the meantime, you should use dry shampoo to keep your hair fresh and oil free, and limit your use of heavy creams or serums.  If you must use a product to tame frizz, apply only to the lower parts of your hair, not the roots.
•    It is also a good idea to make sure that none of the creams or cleansers you use on your face get into your hairline, as many contain oils that could make your hair look oily or greasy.
•    Many women wonder if they will be able to dye their hair if they have it straightened, or vice-versa.  The key is to have the straightening treatment done BEFORE the coloring, as the shampoos commonly used in such treatments can be damaging to color.  For the best results, wait a few days after your straightening treatment to have your hair colored.
•    To the best of your ability, avoid shampoos with sulfates as they strip straightening chemicals from your hair.  Chlorine and salt water can also have this effect, so if you’re a swimmer, or choosing this look for the summer, a swim cap or keeping your head above water is recommended.
•    If you have any other questions, just ask your stylist when you have your treatment done, or contact us!
